KELOWNA – The RCMP are branding a husband and wife team heroes for their outstanding volunteer service in recovering 27 stolen vehicles from 2009-13.
Dustin and Gina Kearns of Kelowna spent over 700 volunteer hours helping the RCMP recover stolen vehicles in the city and received the detachment commander's commendation for outstanding service during the 16th annual 2013 Community Safety and Crime Prevention Awards today. The recipients of the award are those who have shown outstanding courage, standing up against crime in their communities in the past year.
The Kearns duo are among 22 British Columbians, groups and programs recognized.
During the ceremony Minister of Justice Suzanne Anton announced up to $1 million is being made available for crime prevention projects aimed at youth crime and domestic violence through the latest round of civil forfeiture grants.
