Known criminals to be barred from nightclubs in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS – The city and local RCMP have joined together in an effort to keep gangsters and other known criminals out of bars and other businesses in Kamloops.
As of Saturday Dec. 1, police will begin enforcing the Inadmissible Patron Program, according to an RCMP media release.
RCMP say an inadmissible patron is a person who is “wearing or displaying gang colours, support gear or insignia, and/or an individual whose lifestyle, associations and activities pose a risk to public safety.”
The program will require the participation of business owners who will be asked to put a up a sign explaining the program at the entrance to the establishment. Any business can sign up at no charge.
Officers will be able to “remove inadmissible patrons” from the participating businesses as part of the program, police say.
“This partnership between businesses and police will ultimately lead to safer environments for regular customers,” Cpl. Darren Angman with the crime prevention unit says in the release.
RCMP say close to 20 businesses in Kamloops have signed up for program, but don’t say which businesses.
