Woman charged with drunk driving death of 22-year-old student pleads guilty

SURREY, B.C. – A woman charged in the drunk driving death of a 22-year-old driver in Surrey, B.C., last year has pleaded guilty to the crime.

Thirty-four-year-old Natasha Leigh Warren was charged with impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

Kassandra Kaulius (KAWL’-ee-us) was on her way home from a softball game in May 2011 when her car was struck by Warren’s van after she left a Vancouver Canucks celebration.

The university student died at the scene, while Warren tried to flee, but was arrested by police a short distance away.

Kaulius’s family has founded the group Families for Justice to call for stricter drunk driving laws. (News 1130, The Canadian Press)
