PENTICTON – The future of Penticton’s Young Stars Classic hockey tournament appears to be in doubt following an announcement by the Winnipeg Jets this afternoon.
The National Hockey League team said today in a press release this afternoon they will showcase their top rookie prospects at CAA Arena in Belleville, Ontario from Sept. 6 to 9, 2019.
The release noted the Jets previously played in the Young Stars Classic in Penticton since 2011.
The early September hockey tournament was thought in doubt last year after the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers bowed out.
That left only the Winnipeg Jets and Vancouver Canucks prospects to play in a new format against the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds and University of Alberta Golden Bears.
