CC Sabathia fought move to disabled list, vows to be ready to pitch Aug. 24

TORONTO – CC Sabathia knew something was wrong when he woke up a day after beating Seattle at Yankee Stadium and couldn’t bend his elbow enough to put his hand on his shoulder.

He was a little nervous, especially since he had not suffered any arm injuries before.

Sabathia’s wife knew what to do, even if it wasn’t her husband’s preferred choice.

He told the trainer and underwent an MRI exam, which showed no structural damage, just inflammation.

When the pain returned during and after Sabathia’s next start at Detroit on Aug. 8, the Yankees decided he needed time to recover.

Against his insistence, they put him on the disabled list.

Sabathia says he’s focused now on reducing the swelling but vows to be ready to pitch Aug. 24 at Cleveland.
