RCMP seek witnesses to suspicious downtown Vernon fire

VERNON – RCMP is eager to speak to a man who attempted to extinguish a fire in downtown Vernon, before leaving the scene driving away in a BMW last week.

According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release, RCMP officers responded to a suspicious fire at the 2900 block of 31 St. in the early hours of the morning April 14. The fire appeared to consist of pallets burning. When the officer arrived at the scene a man was attempting to extinguish the fire but left the scene before police could speak to him.

"Other witnesses on scene advised police that the male left the area driving a BMW," Const. Kelly Brett says in the release. "The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are looking to speak to this male to gather further information for their investigation at this time."
