Griffin Poetry Prize 2015 jury includes Tim Bowling of Edmonton

TORONTO – Writers Tim Bowling of Edmonton, Fanny Howe of Massachusetts and Piotr Sommer of Poland have signed on to the 2015 Griffin Poetry Prize jury.

Bowling, who grew up in Ladner, B.C., has been nominated for several prestigious awards for his poetry, novels and non-fiction.

Howe has also written books of fiction and poetry, the latest of which is the recently published “Second Childhood.”

And Sommer has written poetry collections in Polish as well as two books of essays and translations of American, English and Irish verse into Polish.

Griffin organizers also announced on Wednesday that American poet Mark Doty has joined the board of trustees.

The Griffin gives out two $65,000 prizes — one to a Canadian and another to an international poet.

The 2015 shortlisted books will be announced on April 7 and the winner will be announced on June 4.
