Crash on Highway 97 in Lake Country sends two to hospital

LAKE COUNTRY – Amazingly, no one was seriously injured in a two vehicle crash on the new section of Highway 97 in Lake Country Monday morning.

RCMP Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says just before 7:30 a.m. the driver of a sedan rear-ended a SUV while both were travelling in the southbound slow lane north of Oyama.

The driver of the SUV lost control, left the highway and ended up at the bottom of a steep embankment.

“The driver of the sedan was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle that went down the embankment sustained minor injuries as well, and was taken to the hospital by a friend,” O’Donaghy says.

Traffic was down to a single lane southbound for a couple of hours as crews recovered and towed the badly damaged vehicles.

O’Donaghy says the RCMP are still investigating and there may be charges coming under the Motor Vehicle Act.
