RVers face a dwindling number of options for dumping waste in Kelowna

KELOWNA – Campers looking to dump their trailers and RVs may have a hard time finding a sani-dump in Kelowna this summer.

Although a quick Google search will bring up a long list of sani-dumps in the Kelowna area, many of these are only open to registered campground guests, or not even open at all.

Two of the most popular sani-dumps, at Canadian Tire and the Husky on Edwards Road, have closed permanently due to vandalism.

The only other options for campers in teh city are the Shell station on Gerstmar Road ($3 or free with fill-up) or the Husky Station at Reid’s corner ($5 or $2 with fill-up).

Those returning to Kelowna from the north may face long line-ups at the sani-dump, especially at the end of a long weekend.

Campers returning via West Kelowna will have an easier time finding places to dump, as there are three locations.

The Chevron and Shell on Dobbin road, and the Shell station on Main Street all have free sani-dumps.

Local campers and tourists will face the dillemma of either waiting in line at a Kelowna sani-dump, or hauling their trailer through traffic across town and crossing the bridge.
