Police recover bodies from Osoyoos Lake following power boat collision

OSOYOOS – The bodies of two people missing in a boating collision on Osoyoos Lake over the weekend have been recovered.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 9 the RCMP underwater recovery team located and recovered the bodies of a 35-year-old man from Kamloops and a 36-year-old man from Maple Ridge from Osoyoos Lake.

Two power boats collided on the lake around 7:15 p.m. Saturday evening between Highway 3 and Haynes Point. Both boats sank immediately.

RCMP remain on scene in an effort to raise both boats from the lake bottom.

The investigation into the collision continues.

RCMP are being assisted by RCMP marine analysts whose specialty is investigating marine collisions, police spokesperson Sgt. Jason Bayda said in a press release issued this morning, June 10.

Osoyoos RCMP are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or the boats prior to the collision to call 250-495-7236. Police are also interested in hearing from anyone with security cameras or other video recording devices that overlook the lake.
