WILD WEDNESDAY: An up-close look at B.C.’s yellow-bellied marmot

The yellow-bellied marmot is a large rodent found throughout B.C.'s Interior.

They normally stick to the ground, but will climb trees at times to allow them to watch for predators such as coyotes and bears, WildSafeBC says in its Wild Wednesday video post to Facebook.

In this clip, you'll see a small family of yellow-bellied marmots. Typically, these rodents have three to five young per litter.

Although marmots can be fun to watch in the wild, they can create problems if you have them in your yard. The marmot is known for carrying ticks and fleas, both of which can carry a variety of diseases. 

B.C. is home to three different types of marmots.
