2 suspects arrested after weeklong manhunt following wounding of Arizona law officer

PHOENIX – Authorities say two suspects have been arrested following a weeklong manhunt into a shooting that left an Arizona law officer wounded.

Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Trent Crump late Wednesday night announced the arrests of the “two outstanding suspects” in the shooting of the Department of Public Safety officer during a traffic stop.

His brief statement did not name the suspects, but said more information would be released Thursday.

Police said earlier that 39-year-old Ramon L. Bueno and 26-year-old Danny Angel Vargas were being sought for questioning as persons of interest.

The arrests follow the release Sunday of a 29-year-old woman after police determined there was no cause to arrest her.

Also, 24-year-old Valeria S. Jaime was arrested on suspicion of hindering prosecution last week and released with restrictions.

The wounded six-year veteran has been reported in stable condition.
