Kamloops boy wins nationwide contest to name RCMP puppy

KAMLOOPS – A new police puppy has a name thanks to a Kamloops boy.

The Police Dog Training Services Centre in Innisfail, Alberta, hosts an annual contest where children across the country submit a name for a new police dog.

Caleb Kilba, a student at Rayleigh Elementary School, was a lucky winner with the name Marlow.

This year, the contest saw a record-breaking 34,714 entries from children in every province and territory in Canada.

Kilba was visited by the Kamloops RCMP Police Dog Services unit, who came to his school and presented him with an RCMP baseball cap, a stuffed dog named Justice and a photo of the puppy he named.

Marlow will be one of the many RCMP dogs that will help find missing or lost people, detect illicit drugs and explosives, apprehend criminals and search for evidence in criminal investigations.
