Judge grants bail to Christian girl accused of blasphemy in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – A judge has granted bail to a young, mentally challenged Christian girl accused of insulting Islam in Pakistan.

The decision by Mohammed Azam Khan today could help defuse some of the uproar the case has generated.

It has shown a spotlight on Pakistan’s harsh blasphemy laws, which human rights activists say are regularly used to persecute Christians.

However, it’s unclear how the girl’s poor family will be able to afford bail.

Khan set bail at one million Pakistani rupees, or about $10,500.
