Severely injured dog leads to BC SPCA cruelty investigation

A small dog is fighting for its life in intensive care as the B.C. SPCA launches a cruelty investigation.

Falcor, a Pekingese mix, was rushed into intensive care after being brought to the North Cariboo SPCA in Prince George. He was cold and unresponsive and had a large open wound on his back. The B.C. SPCA said the wound “had a great deal of necrotic tissue and was covered with maggots.”

“This dog has suffered immensely and deserves a fighting chance,” says chief prevention and enforcement officer Marcie Moriarty. “We have reason to believe that he was a victim of cruelty and are currently investigating the case.”

Falcor needs to undergo further testing to uncover any potential damage to his organs. They said it is not certain whether or not Falcor will live.

Falcor’s medical bills are estimated to reach $5,000 and the B.C. SPCA is seeking donations through their Medical Emergency protocol. As of Saturday, Aug. 24, $12,810 has been donated to Falcor’s medical fund.

Donations seek to cover the cost of surgery, medication, vaccinations, regular health checks and daily care for Falcor until he is ready for adoption, the B.C. SPCA said. Any additional funds will provide care for other animals in need.
