Palestinian stabs, wounds Israeli teen in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM – Israeli police say a Palestinian stabbed and wounded an Israeli teenager in east Jerusalem with a screwdriver.

Spokeswoman Luba Samri said the Palestinian stabbed the 18-year-old Israeli in the neck and back before running away Thursday.

Palestinian attacks have killed 34 Israelis and two visiting Americans since September. Over 200 Palestinians have been killed in that time, most of them identified as attackers by Israel. The violence has declined in recent weeks.

Israel says the violence is fueled by a Palestinian campaign of incitement. Palestinians say it stems from frustration at decades of Israeli rule.

Thursday’s attack took place in east Jerusalem, which was seized by Israel in the 1967 war and where the Palestinians want to establish the capital of their future state.
