Snowmobile accident claims life of Salmon Arm teen
ENDERBY – A Salmon Arm teen is dead after a snowmobiling accident near Enderby.
The 16-year-old Salmon Arm boy was snowmobiling with his father and others Dec. 28 in Hunters Range, but got separated from the group, RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says.
He wasn’t separated for long, but when his father tried to contact him by radio, he didn’t respond.
“When they found him, it is believed he hit a snow bank and the snow machine flipped on top of him and he was trapped underneath it in the snow,” Molendyk says.
Police and Vernon Search and Rescue volunteers were called out around 10:40 a.m. and a helicopter was deployed to retrieve the boy. A doctor on-board pronounced him dead while flying to Vernon.
The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the death with assistance from the RCMP.
