West Kelowna Mounties find pool of blood, abandoned rifle

Pooling blood and the discovery of an abandoned rifle have set the West Kelowna RCMP on the trail of an illegal hunter.

Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers said in the early hours of Oct. 7, a West Kelowna RCMP member was patrolling an area near Trepanier Road, near the overpass, and observed a large pooling of blood on the road.

"He then noted drag marks and followed them to an area where an SKS rifle with a camo sling was located lying in the grass," Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers said in a Facebook post.

The killing occurred near to the highway and after daylight hours, most likely between 1:45 and 2:45 a.m.

"The deer taken is mostly likely a male mule deer," Crime Stoppers said.

If you can help to identify the owner of this rifle, they ask you contact West Kelowna RCMP or remain anonymous and contact Crime Stoppers. File 2019-63185
