B.C. summer heat makes top-10 weather stories of 2013

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – B.C. had some remarkable weather this year, including prolonged fog, an intense cold snap and a heat wave that saw no rain for an entire month in areas that are not used to being dry.

It was the heat and lack of rain in July thoughout southern B.C. that made it into Environment Canada's top-10 weather stories for 2013. The Alberta flood placed secon followed by the flooding in Toronto, prolonged winter in the Prairies and several major winter storms.

The prolonged fog in October and the lack of interface wildfires this summer in our province made the honourable mentions list.

The top weather stories for B.C. include:

1. The January fog on the coast

2.The lack of sun in Victoria for two months

3. The avalanche season

4. The spring flooding in the Lower Mainland

5. The unusually wet September

6. The intense Arctic front that hit the province at the end of October that brought an intense cold that lasted into December. 

The Arctic front dropped more than 60 centimetres of snow on the Kootenay Pass and 32 cm at the Coquihalla Summit.
