New top cop in Lake Country

LAKE COUNTRY – There’s a new sheriff in town. Sgt. Jayson Lucash is the new RCMP detachment commander in Lake Country.

Lucash replaces Sgt. Scott Rempel who hung up his red serge and retired in October.

The officer in charge of the Kelowna RCMP Supt. Nick Romanchuk says the new detachment commander brings 17 years of policing experience to the job.

Lucash and his wife have lived in Lake Country since 2005.

He was born in Manitoba and raised in Alberta. Lucash joined the RCMP in 1996 and his first posting was in Maple Ridge.

He later worked in Williams Lake and then Kelowna. He has been a watch commander in both Penticton and West Kelowna.

In 2012, he was appointed to run the Kelowna RCMP’s Traffic Section.

“I feel privileged to be assuming command of the Lake Country Detachment,” Lucash said. “I look forward to joining the experienced and committed team of police officers and support staff at the Lake Country detachment.”
