Campfire ban to be lifted Thursday in Okanagan, Kamloops
Get ready to roast some marshmallows, the campfire ban in the Kamloops Fire Centre will be rescinded on Thursday.
Category 1 fires —campfires — will be permitted as of noon, Sept. 3, according to a BC Wildfire Service media release. Category 2 and 3 open fires are still prohibited.
Campfires were banned on Friday, July 10 this year.
“As the campfire prohibition is being lifted, we ask the public to remain vigilant and follow all regulations when enjoying campfires,” the media release said.
The wildfire service defines a campfire as no larger than 0.5 metres wide and 0.5 metres high. A fire bigger than that moves into the Category 2.
The Kamloops Fire Centre covers an area from Blue River in the north to the U.S. boarder in the south, and from Bridge River in the west to the Monashee Mountains in the east. It includes the communities of Kamloops, Merritt, Salmon Arm, Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton.
