Driver of semi that jackknifed near Revelstoke ticketed for going too fast for conditions

A transport truck driver was handed a ticket for going too fast for the conditions after jackknifing a rig on the Trans-Canada Highway near Revelstoke this morning.

The crash happened at around 11:40 a.m. today, Jan. 3, approximately five kilometres west of Revelstoke, according to an RCMP media release.

A tractor-trailer was passing other motorists in the westbound passing lane when it jackknifed, blocking east and westbound lanes.

Police say there were no injuries and no other vehicles damaged other than the tractor-trailer.

Road conditions at the time of the crash were described as compact snow with sleet.

Traffic was stopped for approximately one hour before reopening to a single alternating lane.

The 53-year-old driver of the rig was issued a violation ticket for speed relative to conditions.

Revelstoke RCMP want to remind motorists to adhere to the rules of the road and drive accordingly to weather conditions.
