TRU cheerleaders reach goal of zero deductions at ICU World Championships

The Thompson Rivers University cheerleading squad brought it on at the ICU University World Cheerleading Championships hosted by ESPN.

The girls competed against teams from around the world and managed to get no deductions during their routine. The team scored fifth place in the All Girls Premier Division, bringing home a trophy to kick off the TRU competition season, according to the university's website.

The competition took place in Walt Disney World in Florida over the weekend, and the girls performed their routine on Sunday.

Some of the girls who competed with the team known as Team Black were brand new to cheer this year, yet the team crushed their goals.

According to an Instagram post from the team, their main goal was to perform with zero decorations at the world championships, and they are elated to have done just that.

This is the second time the girls have competed in the competition, scoring their ticket after an event in Edmonton.

WHERE DO WE BEGIN?! WOW. We came to Worlds in our second year EVER competing at the Premier level. Our goals since the summer? To Hit Zero at Worlds. And? We did just that!! This team executed their routine with ZERO DEDUCTIONS! We are so incredibly proud of these athletes. They have put so much into this routine. Not to mention, Worlds was our first competition this season with athletes who were brand new to cheer. They stepped up and thrived. We couldn't be more proud. They made history for our program. We walk away with a BEAUTIFUL Trophy as we took 5th Place in the competitive All Girl Premier Division! The other teams – wow. Such an amazing group of teams and are such an inspiration. We hope to see you all again soon! A huge shout out to all the friends and family who travelled to support us. You being here meant the WORLD to us!
