Canadian country star Kissel plans Nashville tornado benefit concert in Edmonton

EDMONTON – Canadian country star Brett Kissel is planning a relief concert in Edmonton to help those affected by a tornado that ripped through Nashville earlier this week.

The Flat Lake, Alta., singer says in an Instagram post that he'll be playing next Wednesday at The Station on Jasper Ave.

Tickets are $60 and all of the proceeds will go toward The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee's tornado relief efforts.

The twister tore through a 16-kilometre stretch of downtown Nashville early Tuesday and narrowly missed Kissel's condo in the trendy Germantown neighbourhood.

The multiple Canadian Country Music Association Award-winning singer has lived in Nashville since 2012, but says he spends a lot of time in his home province, too.

He says when he heard about the people who died in the storm and saw homes and businesses demolished, he knew he had to do something to help.

"I will be performing a special fundraising concert in my first home city of Edmonton to raise money for my second home city, and Edmonton’s sister-city, Nashville," Kissel wrote on Instagram.

"I will take the stage at Station on Jasper, and try my best to sing my heart out for the hearts that have been broken this week."

At least 24 people were killed and many more were injured in the band of severe weather the Nashville area.
