KAMLOOPS – A suspect breaking into a vehicle at Aberdeen Mall brandished bear spray when confronted by witnesses before fleeing, stealing a vehicle and less than an hour later being stopped by police on the North Shore.
On Wednesday, Jan. 8 RCMP attended a theft reported near Future Shop just after 5 p.m. The suspect was reportedly breaking into a vehicle and as multiple units responded two civilian witnesses confronted him at which point he took out a can of bear spray and then fled before police could arrive.
Just before 6 p.m. a call of an erratic driver on Summit Drive led police to a driver at Fortune Drive and 8 Street who then fled on foot as RCMP pulled over the stolen vehicle. The driver was located and when apprehended took out a can of bear spray, pointing it towards the arresting officers.
The driver, a local man known to police, has been arrested and officers confirmed the suspect is responsible for both events. Numerous charges are pending.
