
Road dust advisory issued for Vernon
A road dust advisory has been issued for Vernon.
A media release March 19, from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy jointly with Interior Health advises people with chronic underlying medical conditions should postpone strenuous exercise near busy roads until the advisory is lifted.
The advisory was issued due to high concentrations of coarse particulate matter in the air, which is expected to persist until there is precipitation or dust suppression.
The government warns levels are likely to be highest and around busy roads and industrial operations and exposure and advise people to keep windows and doors shut, and reduce indoor sources of pollution such as smoking and vacuuming.
The air quality is a particular concern for infants, the elderly, as well as people with diabetes, lung or heart disease.
The advisory remains in effect until further notice.
