A dog being walked in a Prince George park was fatally attacked by a black bear, offering a reminder that bear warnings need to be taken seriously.

The B.C. Conservation Office said the attack happened at approx. 10 a.m. Friday in the Forests for the World park in Prince George. Bear spray was deployed and there have been no further sightings of the bear.

The Conservation Office is urging everyone enjoying outdoor spaces to use caution and be vigilant.

Please take the following into consideration:

  • travel in groups
  • keep pets on leashes
  • make noise
  • carry some form of noisemaker
  • do not feed any wildlife
  • carry bear spray

The BCCOS is advising the public to report bear activity to the #RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277.
