Sunshine to return just in time for Father’s Day in Okanagan, Kamloops

It was looking like another wet and cool weekend in Kamloops and the Okanagan, but the forecast has taken a turn and now it's looking like there will be sunshine and above normal temperatures for Father's Day on Sunday.

Although we are going to have to get through a mixed bag of weather before Father's Day, which is also the first official day of summer.

Environment Canada is calling for a mix of sun and cloud today, June 19, in the Okanagan and Kamloops with a high of around 29 Celsius.

On Saturday, there is a pretty good chance of showers, with a risk of a late afternoon thunderstorm, and the daytime high temperatures struggling to get to the mid-20s throughout the Thompson-Okanagan region.

The sunshine is expect to return on Sunday in Kamloops and the Okanagan with a high of 26 C.

Next week's forecast indicates the region might finally be turning the corner on a spring weather pattern that has been notable for its wet, cool weather.

For example, according to data from Accuweather, the 25 C reached in Penticton this past Wednesday, June 17, was the highest temperature recorded in the city this year. The month has had eight days out of 18 where daily highs didn’t even make the 20 C mark in the Peach City.

But Penticton, Kelowna, Vernon and Kamloops's daytime high temperatures yesterday ranged from 28 to 30 C, and the outlook for next week is for highs in the upper 20s to low 30s for all four cities.
