B.C.’s police watchdog investigating death in 100 Mile House

B.C.'s police watchdog is investigating an incident in 100 Mile House.

The RCMP notified the Independent Investigations Office that a man died shortly after he was police custody June 27, 2020, according to a release.

The deceased man had been arrested by RCMP without incident on June 25 in connection to a theft in progress. The man was released June 26 and was provided transportation to a nearby shelter.

The man was found deceased in his room in late afternoon the following day.

Local RCMP have ruled out foul play in his death, and the Coroners Service is continuing their investigation into the cause of death and any contributing factors.

The Independent Investigations Office will investigate to determine whether the officers' actions or inaction played a role in the man's death.
