Looking for a forever home; Kamloops SPCA pet of the week

Cade

Cade was found as a stray in a rural area of Kamloops and no owner came forward to claim him so he is now looking for his new forever home. He was in some pretty rough shape when he first arrived at the Kamloops branch of the B.C. SPCA and was diagnosed with food allergies. He now requires a special diet and medication to help keep things under control.

Initially he can be quite nervous of strangers and takes awhile to get comfortable with someone. He comes across as very intimidating when he is scared. Once he trusts a person he is affectionate and loves getting belly rubs. He would do best in a quiet household with gentle handling and with no children. A confident guardian is important to help him work on his fear of people.

Cade has made a few doggy friends while at the shelter but is selective of who he likes, so proper dog introductions are important. He prefers calmer dogs that are not constantly in his face. He doesn't like sharing food or toys so he will need work on this. He's currently in foster care where he is living with cats.

Cade is getting to go for swims once a week at a hydrotherapy pool in Kamloops. This allows him an outlet for all his energy and helps with socializing him to new people and places. Cade loves going for car rides and does well on leash.

While in foster care Cade participated in introductory agility classes with his foster mom.

Cade is going to require a very experienced/Border Collie savvy owner to help him address his behavior problems. He is definitely not a dog for a first time owner.

A behaviour counselling session with the adoption staff is necessary before adopting any animal to ensure success in the new home.

If you're interested in adopting Cade contact the Kamloops branch of the B.C. SPCA. His Animal ID number is 348047.
