Vernon RCMP catch wanted man with help of police dog

After tangling with a police dog, a man found inside a Vernon residence he was court ordered not to visit is now in custody.

Vernon RCMP officers were alerted by the public at around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10, that a 36-year-old Vernon man was inside a residence he was court ordered not to go to, according to an RCMP news release.

Frontline officers responded to the residence, located in the 4200 block of Alexis Park Drive, and confirmed the man was inside. Officers made numerous attempts to have the man willingly exit the residence. When he allegedly didn't listen, officers used a police dog to help enter the building.

The man was found in one of the bedrooms and allegedly resisted arrest and tried to fight the dog, Vernon RCMP media relations officer Const. Chris Terleski said in the release. 

After a brief struggle, police took the man into custody. He was treated at the hospital for minor injuries.

The man had multiple arrest warrants and is in custody facing an additional charge of failing to comply with a release order, RCMP said.
