Kelowna RCMP reach out to community in wake of high-profile murder

The Kelowna RCMP is inviting Kelowna residents to connect at an outreach event following a high profile public murder last week.

The event is meant to be an opportunity for the community to express concerns and use RCMP emotional support services from officers and victim services as well as get information on personal safety and the Block Connectors program, according to a press release from police. 

“We understand that this event has caused significant concerns to the community and people may have questions about their safety and the incidents that they either witnessed or were involved in,” Cpl. Allison Konsmo said in the release. 

The event is in the Angel Way parking lot in the north-east corner of the Parkinson Recreation Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, July 10.

Last week, a man was charged with the second-degree murder of his ex-wife the same day he was convicted of domestic violence. 

Police were called to the 1900-block of Enterprise Way around 1 p.m. on July 4, according to a press release from Kelowna RCMP.

James Edward Plover allegedly killed Bailey McCourt in broad daylight after getting into a collision. McCourt and another victim were taken to hospital after the attack.

McCourt died of her injuries and the other victim is still recovering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Plover has been charged with second-degree murder and is currently in custody. His next court date is also tomorrow, July 10.
