Change in weather forecast means clear skies for rare Halloween blue moon

A change in the weather means it won't be as scary for those venturing out on Halloween tomorrow in the Okanagan and Kamloops.

Environment Canada is calling for sunshine during the day and clear skies at night.

The predicted lack of cloud cover means a bright evening for trick or treaters, and those looking for a good view of October’s second full moon of the month which is called a blue moon.

The forecast for Halloween tomorrow, Oct. 31, calls for sunshine in Kamloops and the Okanagan with daytime high temperatures ranging from 7 Celsius in Kamloops to 11 C in Penticton.

The clear skies are expected to continue overnight with a low of 0 C.

A Halloween blue moon is a rare event.

The last time one appeared was in 1944, and the next one we’ll see one will be in 2039.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.

As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
