TRENDING NOW: ‘Jeopardy!’ honours Alex Trebek with heart-warming message

A day after long-time "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek died at the age of 80, Jeopardy!" executive producer Mike Richards opened the show with a poignant message to viewers.

“Over the weekend we lost our beloved host, Alex Trebek," Richards said in the taped message. "This is an enormous loss for our staff, for our crew, for his family, for his millions of fans. He loved this show and everything it stood for."

The last shows hosted by Trebek will air until Dec. 25, episodes the unflappable host of 37 years taped only two weeks ago.

“He will forever be an inspiration for his constant desire to learn, for his kindness and for his love of his family," Richards said.
