Another COVID-19 case reported at Kelowna high school

The list of people who have tested positive at Kelowna Secondary School continues to grow.

After issuing a media release yesterday, Nov. 15, about a person who had tested positive for COVID-19, who had been at the school on Nov. 12,  the Central Okanagan School District issued a second release later that day saying a second person had tested positive.

The latest notification says the two cases are unrelated and the second person was in the school on Nov. 9 and 10.

At least three other positive tests were announced earlier in November but both the school district and Interior Health refuse to say how many cases there have been in the school altogether or how many students versus staff have tested positive.

Last Friday, school district superintendent Kevin Kaardal told iNFOnews.ca that there have been 20 to 25 people in the district as a whole who had tested positive for COVID-19.

That was before these two cases were announced at Kelowna Secondary School along with a case at E’cole Dr. Knox Middle School that was also announced yesterday.

There has been at least one other person who tested positive at E’cole Dr. Knox.

All these people are at home self-isolating.

Kaardal said in the Nov. 13 interview, that an undisclosed number of contacts with the various people who tested positive have also been sent home to self-isolate, including a few entire “learning groups.”

Interior Health is contact tracing and will notify parents if their children might have been in contact with those who tested positive.

“If you are not contacted by Interior Health, it has been determined that your child is not at risk of developing COVID-19,” the school board release states.
