Kamloops resident at the wheel in fatal pedestrian accident
LANGFORD – A Langford woman is dead after a 50-year-old driver from the Kamloops area apparently struck a pedestrian yesterday.
The West Shore RCMP are investigating the accident that happened at 8:26 a.m. in the 1100 block of Goldstream Avenue. The 48-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital by ambulance, but succumbed to her injuries.
A traffic collision analyst was at the scene to help with the investigation and because of the seriousness of the accident, Goldstream Avenue from the off-ramp of the Trans Canada Highway to Spencer Road was closed in both directions for three hours.
A coroner was also at the scene and is working with the RCMP during the investigation.
"This is a tragic situation that will have a significant impact to many," Langford RCMP Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz said. "We will continue to investigate the factors to try and bring the family some answers."
So far, there is no evidence alcohol or drugs were factors for either the driver or the pedestrian.
