Ottawa Charge head coach Carla MacLeod announces breast cancer diagnosis

OTTAWA — Ottawa Charge head coach Carla MacLeod says she has breast cancer.

She made the announcement today on the Charge’s social media accounts.

MacLeod says that although the news is scary, she’s sure she’ll be OK.

She added that she intends to be behind the Charge’s bench as often as possible this season.

Ottawa is 1-1-0 to start the new Professional Women’s Hockey League season.

The 43-year-old MacLeod won Olympic gold with Team Canada as a player at the 2006 Turin and 2010 Vancouver Games before retiring and moving into coaching.
