Snowy end to 2020 in Kamloops and Okanagan

It looks like 2020 is going to end on a somewhat snowy note in Kamloops and the Okanagan this week.

Environment Canada meteorologist Chris Gibbons says the Thompson-Okanagan could see two to five centimetres of snow starting tomorrow night, Dec. 29, with another two to three cm by Wednesday.  He says another two to five cm could fall on New Year’s Day, with temperatures expected to begin rising by the long weekend.

Temperatures are expected to sit around the freezing mark through the last days of December, dropping to -2 or -3 Celsius overnight, although New Year’s Eve could see a high of 0 C in Kamloops and 1 C in the Okanagan.

Environment Canada is calling for a 60 per cent chance of flurries in Vernon and Kelowna today, Dec. 28, with a 70 per cent chance of flurries in Penticton and today's high at -1 C for Vernon and Kelowna, 1 C for Penticton. Kamloops is expected to see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 0 C.

Mainly cloudy conditions are expected in all four cities tomorrow with periods of snow on Tuesday night.

No major incidents have been reported on the Coquihalla, Trans-Canada Highway 1, or the Hope Princeton Highway 3 today.

Drive BC reports slush and compact snow on the Coquihalla and the Coquihalla connector today, following light snow across the region last night. Highway 3 has compact snow from the first avalanche gate 17 km east of Hope to 32 km west of Princeton.

The Coquihalla Highway and Okanagan Connector could see between five and 10 centimetres through Wednesday.

I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
