

iN NUMBERS: Weed, yes, but few British Columbians support more legalization
We’re coming up on eight years since weed was legalized, and three years since BC experimented with decriminalizing other drugs. The decriminalization pilot project officially expires on Jan. 31, and most people in BC want to leave it in the past, according to this poll.
Here are some stats from a new Research Co. survey on how people feel about cannabis and other drugs:
- 65: Per cent of British Columbians agree with legalizing cannabis.
- 15: Per cent of British Columbians support legalizing ecstasy.
- 12: Per cent of British Columbians support legalizing crystal meth.
- 8: Per cent of British Columbians support legalizing fentanyl.
- 16: Per cent of British Columbians support legalizing powder cocaine, the most support for any hard drug.
- 70: Per cent of British Columbians think employers should be able to make employees take a drug test even if they don’t operate heavy machinery.
- 42: Per cent of British Columbians get all of their cannabis from a licensed retailer.
- 48: Per cent of British Columbians get at least some of their cannabis from somewhere other than a licensed retailer.
- 41: Per cent of British Columbians consumed cannabis before it was legal.
- 15: Per cent of British Columbians only used cannabis after it was legalized.
