SURREY — Homicide investigators have been called to Surrey, B.C., after a man was found lying near a roadway with fatal gunshot wounds.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says local officers responded to reports of a man lying near the 3500 block of 176 Street just after noon Tuesday and paramedics subsequently pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police have since identified the victim as 46-year-old Baljinder “Binder” Singh Garcha of Surrey.
Sukhi Dhesi with IHIT says the investigation is in its early stages, but police do not believe there is a connection to gang conflict in the region.
However police say they do believe a vehicle fire reported the same day along 40 Avenue in Surrey is related to the man’s death.
Dhesi says investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting, including security or dash-camera footage from the area, to come forward.
