Kelowna man faces carjacking charges after chase with RCMP

A Kelowna man is facing charges in connection to an assault and carjacking of a week ago.

Officers were called to a report of an assault and car theft at around 11:23 a.m., Feb. 12, near Ambrosi Road and Agassiz Road in Kelowna, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Feb. 18.

RCMP said the person who made the complaint and the suspect were acquaintances and had been arguing. The suspect allegedly assaulted the acquaintance and stole their vehicle.

The suspect fled on Glenmore Road north and was involved in at least two crashes.

The vehicle was tracked by RCMP air services and the suspect was arrested at a gas station in Vernon.

James Wilkinson appeared in court, Feb. 13, and was charged with robbery , theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and failure to stop after an accident and will be back in court later this week.

“This file highlights the strong coordination between frontline officers and specialized RCMP units, including resources from Southeast District,” Kelowna RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Steven Lang said in release. “Their combined efforts ensured that a potentially volatile situation was brought to a safe conclusion.”
