iN PHOTOS: Rescued animals living their best lives in BC
Animals meant to be beloved pets find themselves in hard times all too often, but these are some redemption stories for cats and dogs in BC.
The BC SPCA rescues animals all across the province, and sometimes they get dumped at a doorstep of a shelter.
Bagel the Labrador retriever was left in a cardboard box outside of a BC SPCA centre with a blanket and crumbs from a loaf of bread in December. Now, he has a forever home and owners who renamed him Finnegan.
Pixie the poodle-mix was found chained-up outside in the snow with overgrown fur in Prince Rupert in November 2025. She’s got a fresh hairdo and devoted owners who dubbed her Trixie. A new name to start a new life, but similar enough that it won’t confuse her.
Spooner the bulldog had a broken leg, but she’s a great eater and earned her nickname because she likes to be spooned while she sleeps.
Animal protection officers walked into a heartbreaking scene in Fraser Valley on Jan. 29. Officers found 17 cats abandoned, with as many as eight in a single crate. The cats were rescued and brought to the centre.
Nearly all of the cats have now made it to their forever homes.

Dogs and cats you meant to type.
The word animals would mean different types.
I have 6 pets and none of them are a cat or a dog and all were rescued.
Why not give some attention to all the other animals that are abandoned and rescued?
There is actually more of them than cats/dogs
Okanagan Humane Society is a wonderful organization. They help with abandoned and feral animals in conjunction with our local veterinary clinics. I found they far more responsive than the SPCA in dealing with feral cats
