Salmon Arm woman killed in crash with semi near Sicamous

A 22-year-old woman from Salmon Arm was killed in a crash with semi truck south of Sicamous Wednesday.

A southbound Ford sedan lost control on a curve on Highway 97A at around 8:40 a.m., Feb. 25, near the Hummingbird Resort along Mara Lake south of Sicamous, according to an RCMP media release.

The sedan crossed the centre line into the path of a northbound semi truck and trailer.

The highway was slippery with heavy snow falling at the time of the collision and the road was covered with a thin layer of wet snow, RCMP said.

The woman driving the car was declared deceased at the scene by an off duty doctor who had stopped to help. No one else was hurt in the crash.

The highway was closed for approximately seven hours. Construction on the Bruhn Bridge in Sicamous was stopped for the day so traffic could be diverted to Highway 1.
