Midway RCMP go beyond call of duty to chop firewood for woman in need
RCMP acted above and beyond the call of duty after discovering a resident in Midway in the Boundary region was in need recently.
RCMP officers were called to a Midway home to provide assistance to emergency medical personnel who were attending a medical call. One of the responding officers returned later to check on the well-being of a woman at the residence left on her own after her spouse was taken to hospital.
"The officer found the woman breaking up household furniture to burn in the wood stove for heat," police spokesperson Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said in a press release issued today, Jan. 21. “That officer immediately rounded up the troops who travelled into the back country to chop wood, which they sorted, split, delivered and stacked for the local elder."
RCMP hope the small act of kindness will encourage others to step up and reach out to help those around them, noting how easy it can be in these COVID-19 times to become isolated and unaware of the challenges others face
"I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to public service employee McLaren, Const. Hansen, Const. Stermscheg and Cpl. Peters for their tremendous compassion towards not only this wonderful couple in need of a lending hand, but their community as a whole," district commander for the RCMP Southeast District Supt. Brad Haugli said in the release. "They are leaders and represent just some of the incredibly compassionate and dedicated people we are lucky to have providing policing services in our area.”
