Stars extend win streak to franchise-high nine games with 6-1 victory over Canucks

VANCOUVER — Two goals from Lian Bichsel powered the Dallas Stars to a lopsided 6-1 victory over the struggling Vancouver Canucks on Monday.

Colin Blackwell, Jason Robertson and Matt Duchene each scored and notched a helper for the Stars (37-14-9), who stretched their win streak to a franchise-record nine games.

Adam Erne added a goal for Dallas, while Miro Heiskanen and Sam Steel recorded two helpers apiece, and Jake Oettinger made 13 saves.

The Canucks opened the scoring midway through the first period when Jake DeBrusk drove into the offensive zone, put a shot off Oettinger’s right pad and Evander Kane deflected the rebound in from the side of the net for his 11th goal of the season.

The home side couldn’t hold onto the lead amid an onslaught of giveaways and defensive miscues.

Nikita Tolopilo stopped 31 of the 37 shots he faced in Vancouver’s net as the Canucks lost a sixth straight game (0-4-2).

TAKEAWAYS

Canucks: Took an early lead with Kane’s goal 7:57 into the first period, but the offence stuttered in the second, with Vancouver registering just four shots on goal through the period. … Defenceman Tyler Myers was held out a third-straight game for trade-related reasons.

Stars: Came in with the second-best power play in the league (30.1 per cent) and capitalized on their first man advantage of the night when Vancouver’s Filip Hronek was called for delay of game midway through the second period. … Heiskanen extended his point streak to six games with nine assists across the stretch.

KEY MOMENT

Dallas took the lead 8:31 into the second period when Ilya Lyubushkin sliced a pass to Bichsel and the six-foot-seven defenceman blasted a wrist shot up and over Tolopilo’s shoulder from the slot to make it 2-1.

KEY STAT

The Canucks have not scored a power-play goal since Jan. 27, going 0-for-13 over their last seven games.

Stars: Visit the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.

Canucks: Host the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday.
