A 34-year-old BC man charged with committing bestiality with horses has previously done jail time for sexual assault.
Today, March 26, Seth Justin Christian had his first court appearance on the charges, after he was accused of having sex with horses following an incident at a Vernon equestrian centre Jan. 24, 2026.
Court records show the Golden resident has previously been charged and convicted for sexual assault.
In 2013, in Golden, Christian was sentenced to nine months in jail for sexual assault. A charge of attempting to choke was stayed by the Crown.
He was put on two years’ probation, which he then breached.
A few years earlier in December 2010, Christian faced allegations of child luring in Nelson after he was recorded in two incidents of aggressively approaching young girls for sex.
A published pre-trial hearing showed evidence that when he was 19, he approached a 14-year-old girl walking home in the early evening from his minivan. He wound down his window and asked her to have sex with him. She said no, and he drove off.
After she went to the police, another 17-year-old girl said Christian asked her for directions before asking her for sex. When she refused, he replied, “You’re sure, it would be fun.” As she walked away, he began shouting at her, which got “progressively more aggressive.”
While Christian was committed to a BC Supreme Court trial in that case after a preliminary hearing, it’s unclear what became of it. An online court records system has no indication it ever existed, which is rare but not uncommon.
The incident in Vernon was captured on CCTV footage by Abigail Equestrian and Christian’s photo was widely shared online.
At the time, Abigail Equestrian owner Erica Van Meenen told iNFOnews.ca that a horse had been “fully raped.”
Van Meenen described the events as disturbing and traumatizing, noting that a step stool had been used to get access to the horses.
“(The horse) did try to get away from him multiple times, and he just kept following her around,” Van Meenen said. “The average person knows enough that you don’t go behind a horse… this guy was very comfortable around the horses and around their hind ends.”
Christian owned the Golden contracting company, SJC Interiors.
In 2024, one unhappy customer sued him for $26,000 over a basement renovation. The plaintiff claimed Christian’s work was subpar and that he left much of the project unfinished.
Christian is not currently in custody and will be back in court at the end of April. The bestiality charge has not been proven in court.

I strongly believe if he is going to be let out in public that this is a case for chemical castration.
It is extremely upsetting that this man has continuously committed or made attempts to commit sexual offences against women, children, and animals. SA is not a victimless crime either, but one that devastates the lives of the victims.
Society should not be forced to bear the burden of this man’s choice not to control himself.
FFS! Lock this loser up before he hurts anyone else.
No woman, child, or animal should have to suffer abuse by cruel, ignorant, horrible men. Though not a fan of violence, at times like these, I seriously wish we had a death penalty. Or at least sentences of 20 years minimum for 1st offence, life without pardon for 2nd.
These creatures deserve far harsher penalties than the status quo. Get ALL these predators off ALL our streets and out of ALL our neighbourhoods. The rest of us deserve protection, and we know that if it were only males being injured & devastated via this type of crime, that protection would have been put in place a very long time ago.
