Howden second in final Ski Cross World Cup race but has another overall title

GÄLLIVARE — Another World Cup ski cross silver medal and overall championship for Canadian Reece Howden.

Howden, of Chilliwack, B.C., finished just behind Italian Simone Deromedis in a photo finish Sunday. Edoardo Zorzi, also of Italy, was third.

It marked the second silver in as many days for Howden, who earned a second-place finish Saturday. But the Canadian had already clinched the Crystal Globe for taking first in the individual standings for a second straight season and fourth time overall.

Ottawa’s Jared Schmidt was fifth while Kristofor Mahler of Canmore Alta., finished 21st.

In the women’s event, Ottawa’s Hannah Schmidt finished sixth while Marielle Thompson of Whistler, B.C., finished in 14th place.
