Skate Canada International is coming back to Kelowna this fall after seven years.
The event is set for Prospera Place from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, and it brings together Canadian skaters with top athletes from around the world. Tickets are set to go on sale later this month, according to a press release from Skate Canada.
The event was held in Kelowna back in 2019. It’s part of the International Skating Union Grand Prix of Figure Skating’s six-part series culminating in a grand finale.
The skaters are seeded and invited to the six Grand Prix of Figure Skating events based on the results achieved at the previous ISU World Figure Skating Championships. The top 12 skaters and couples are guaranteed two Grand Prix assignments.
There are four categories, men, women, pairs and ice dance. Ice dance has a rhythm dance and free dance sections while the other categories have a short program and free skating segments.
The Canadian National Skating Championships will be in Mississauga, Ont. in 2027, but the full Skate Canada events calendar hasn’t been announced yet.
This is another major sporting event headed for Kelowna this year following the Memorial Cup in May and the BC Summer Games in July.
