Kelowna RCMP called to deal with unruly WestJet passenger

A passenger arriving in Kelowna on a WestJet flight out of Calgary was greeted by Kelowna RCMP earlier this month for allegedly smoking in the aircraft's washroom.

A preliminary civil aviation daily occurrence report issued by Transport Canada on Feb. 15, said Kelowna tower was notified that a WestJet Encore Dash-8 arriving from Calgary requested the assistance of the RCMP due to an onboard passenger who was smoking in the bathroom.

Kelowna RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy says police were called to Kelowna International Airport on Feb. 9 at approximately 10 p.m. after being notified of a disruptive passenger on an incoming WestJet flight from Calgary.

“We escorted the passenger from the flight without incident,” Noseworthy said.

WestJet's Morgan Bell confirmed the airline dealt with an unruly passenger on Feb. 9 that resulted in a call to the Kelowna RCMP.

“We don’t have any additional details to share as it remains a matter with the authorities,” he said in an email statement.

The CADORS report, which contains preliminary, unconfirmed information, said the incident did not cause any operational impact at the airport.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
