TORONTO — Elyse Bennett’s goal late in the second half earned Montreal Roses FC a 1-0 win over AFC Toronto in Northern Super League action Sunday.
Montreal Roses FC (3-0-0) remained unbeaten with the victory. Toronto (1-1-1) suffered its first loss of the season.
Bennett scored at the 88-minute mark to snap a scoreless tie at BMO Field. Anna Karpenko picked up a third straight shutout.
Montreal outshot Toronto 11-10 but the home team had almost twice as many on-target shots (7-4) in the contest.
“The opponent challenged us with their high press, particularly in the first half,” said Montreal head coach Robert Rositoiu. “In the second, the players were able to build out from the back more cleanly while staying very strong defensively.”
